An afternoon
From Jenne and C.E. is The Unicorn Challenge for December 8, 2023.
The challenge: one picture and a story up to 250 words.
This snapshot is 109 words.
An afternoon
“Look,” she said.
“I am,” I said.
She faced me and tossed a handful of warm sand on my legs. “Not at me, out there.”
“We live in the city, I see geese all the time.”
“Those are swans. And you live with me, you see me all the time.”
“I can never see you enough.”
She looked back toward the swans as did I. She put her hand down on top of mine and we sat. Silent. Facing the sweet smell of the ocean.
Together.
True romance, in every sense. 😉

An incredibly romantic take;
I felt like I was looking over this couple’s shoulders.
Not one single thing wrong with this story.
I loved it!

Had me on the first two lines.
I love it when the author has the confidence in the characters to open like you did. Way not as easy as you make it look.*
*open secret: for me reading the stories here is about 66% for fun and 45% to try to figure how the author manages to do what it is they do. first always, the second, most of the time.

I’m not sure that I’d describe me as having confidence, but I’ll take the compliment and hold onto it! Thank you Clark.

Your writing is always filled with heart and a wonderful humanness. It paints a picture of who you are–or , I suppose, who I believe you to be. In any case, it puts you in a good light, both as a writer and a human being.
