My Saturday (SOC)

June 26, 2021

Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “up/down.” Use one, use them both, but try to put one in your first sentence. Bonus points if you use the other in your last sentence.

Window washers climbed up ladders and onto the roofs this morning to clean out the building’s gutters and clean the windows. It’s not that ladders frighten me and I have no problem walking under them, but I’m not crazy about climbing them because they don’t feel sturdy and the next thing you know it wobbles too much and it falls out from under you like in the safety videos you might have to watch at your job and the next thing you know you’re hanging like Harold Lloyd from the giant clock in Safety Last only from a gutter. If you’ve never heard of Harold Lloyd he’s like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton only different. So you’re hanging from the gutter and then you fall down.

I didn’t watch the cleaners because I went to get food. Food shopping isn’t as much fun as it used to be because, at least for me, I go to different stores for different stuff. I get bread at one place and fruit/veggies at another place and other stuff, grocery stuff, somewhere else. It’s actually a pretty simple to plan but the problem comes when you want to get something refrigerated or frozen at the fruit/veggie place but you still have to stop at the grocery stuff place. You don’t want to run home and unload and then go back out again so you have to make do.

You don’t make “do” like a doo-doo, you make “do” like you just cope with the situation. Although I suppose it’s possible that someone less chilled than me might get so uptight with the multiple store scenario and the complex logistics involved that they might actually make a “do” like a doo-doo.

Shortly after I left it started to rain, which is great because it’s really dry, like drought dry, here, but then I thought about the cleaning crew and what that would do to the gutter cleaning and the window washing and if they didn’t clean the windows would the association get a refund or would they just come back another day.

When I got home I didn’t see any ladders but I did see guys walking around carrying ladders and large black plastic garbage bags. Like those bit 30 gallon Hefty bags you see on garbage pick-up day. That’s if you’re lucky because if you don’t see those large plastic garbage bags then it means your neighbors put their trash out in regular grocery store paper bags and it winds up all over the place. Hopefully the bags they were carrying were filled with leaves and debree (yes, I know it’s debris but I’m told we’re not supposed to pronounce the “s” so it’s debree) rather than complaining homeowners.

I think the cleaning crew should have looked at the forecast and rescheduled because of the rain forecast. I’m trying for bonus points I’ll say that I suppose I could have gone down there and told them but that’s not me and because I didn’t want to risk ending up in one of those plastic garbage bags.

We started putting a cooler in the car for the very reasons you write about. Ben & Jerry are not gonna melt in my car!
