Why do you write?
Today Bloganuary asks: “Why do you write?”
That’s a question I don’t think I’ve ever asked myself. I guess I write because, in no particular order: it’s fun, it can be a release (if one is honest enough to make it so), I like reading poetry and think ‘what if…’, because the blogging community on WordPress is filled with some interesting people that I enjoy getting to know, because it would be nice to have short stories published.
I suppose the blogging community on WordPress reason would be an answer to Why do you blog, but who’s keeping score.
Day six of Bloganuary and I have to say I’m a little underwhelmed with the prompts. They’re not very inspiring and they do nothing to spark my imagination. The questions make me feel like I’m at a job interview. Or in some speed dating nightmare.
I’ve never been to a speed dating event, so I don’t really know if the Bloganuary prompts are anything like speed dating questions and conversation. I mentioned it because Bloganuary prompts are a random, and pretty much meaningless, question tossed out and they make me think I have three seconds to make an impression on the reader. Kind of like the three seconds you have to make an impression at a speed dating event:
“Hi, I’m Tinsley!”
“Uh…”
I’m lucky if I make an impression on someone in the first three minutes – or three hours – so I don’t like the thought of being asked to make an impression based on a random question.
“Why do you write?”
“Uh…”
And to top it off, sitting here writing this, far away from all of you, I don’t even get the advantage of wearing some cheap pheromone cologne to make myself appear more attractive.
Do you like the TV show Frasier? On one episode, Fraiser tells his producer, Roz, that he’s going to a speed dating event. When she asks him what that is, he tells her that 12 men and 12 women get together and talk to each other for a few minutes and then when a bell rings they move onto the next person.
“It’s all the stress and humiliation of a blind date, times twelve.” Fraiser tells her.
“Wow,” says Roz. “How desperate.”
Who needs help in life feeling desperate? Hey that could be a Blogaunary prompt!
Ha Ha nice comparison to speed dating😂!

I love Fraiser and the entire cast. Roz was a great foil for Fraiser.

Haha. Funny! Not much to work with, is there? It could be more profound, true. It does help with dashing off a quick paragraph for us new bloggers.
