From Charli Mills at the Carrot Ranch is this week’s story challenge.

November 15, 2022, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that includes a lie.

Jerry’s mind was everywhere but where it was supposed to be. His quick eyes darted away from the person in front of him to look out at the crowd.

He spied an attractive brunette and wondered what she looked like from the back. Then what she’d look like lying down. He looked forward to answering those questions later.

Then he saw Robin and smiled at the warm memory.

Jerry turned his attention back to the man to his right and tried his best to focus.

“…and do you, Jerry, take Elizabeth to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“I do.”

This is the Knickerbockers (not the Beatles) and their hit song Lies.

And this is Linda Ronstadt (not the Beatles or The Knickerbockers) singing the Knickerbocker’s hit song Lies.

What a great twist, Michael. It was unexpected that the scene was at a wedding, and the groom was the focus of the story. I pity poor Elizabeth.

I’ve met a few Jerrys in my time! 😄 Good one, Michael.

What a telling of Jerry’s twisted tale! To have him as the unfocused groom at his own wedding was brilliant.
