What was that?

April 12, 2022

After yesterday’s Intentional post, it might be seen as cheating to answer today’s Word of the Day prompt – FORGETFUL – by talking about the time I bought a birthday present for Getful. Getful being a friend for whom I bought a birthday present.

Get it?

On the other hand some might think that having a word like this after a word like that would be akin to providence. George said/Ringo said (pick one) (didn’t know there was going to be a test? Sorry. There’s no wrong answer) “It don’t come easy“, but this one kinda did.

And nothing wrong with providence. Did I ever tell you about the time I went to Rhode Island and stayed at a lovely hotel in the capital city? Yeah, I know.

Billy Collins is a poet. He is a very good poet. He was Poet Laureate of the US for two years which is pretty impressive on a resume. Anyway, he wrote a poem titled “Forgetfulness” and like all good poems it makes you wonder how some people can create such beauty and emotion with words. It’s also, or at least I think it’s also, a sad poem. You can read it here. Let me know what you thought; did you find it sad or funny? There’s a video online of him reading the poem to an live audience and the audience laughs every time he pauses. I don’t understand it – the laughing, not the poem – and I wonder if he appreciated the laughter? Did he want people to laugh when he was writing it?

Speaking of Billy Collins, he teaches a MasterClass in reading and writing poetry. Has anyone still reading this taken the class, or ever subscribed to MasterClass?

I’m done typing. Here’s another poet who asks you to keep him in your heart.

I went down a rabbit hole after listening to this Warren Zevon song. And then the poem…a sad post, Michael.
And no to MasterClass. I was not a fan of school and ‘class’ sounds too much like school.

Warren will do that to a person. He’s like a potato chip and once you eat/listen to one… Unless you don’t like potato chips and then he’s like something else. I agree about classes. I did school and now it’s done and I don’t want to do it again. But they have some interesting non classes there that sound more like fun than school.
