They looked familiar
They looked familiar. Something about the way they were smiling and holding hands. How they leaned into each other as they walked.
So plainly in love.
I followed them trying to put my finger on it.
Trying to remember where I met them. Where I knew them from.
They separated hands. He put his arm around her shoulder, she wrapped hers around his waist. Their pace slowed.
They laughed.
And then it hit me.
I used to be him.

Oh. Damn.

This could be quite ambiguous, Michael! Are you watching yourself in a parallel reality or are you watching a past love with a new boyfriend? An intriguing write 🙂

The parallel reality is cool but my thought when writing it was a guy who was so lost that he didn’t recognize what he missed with the woman he loved.

Totally get it, Michael. That came across strongly👌

I’m glad you went that way, Michael. I used to be him, too. 🙂 Well done.

As they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing but foresight is better. I’m guessing he didn’t appreciate what he had until that moment. Nice one.
