Marlon Brando said
Supposedly Marlon Brando said: “The most repulsive thing you could ever imagine is the inside of a camel’s mouth. That and watching a girl eat octopus or squid.” I say supposedly because even though the quote is shared on a lot of different Brando websites, I’ve never seen a citation.
Anyway . . .
I saw a bumper sticker this morning on the way to work that read: “Be the reason someone smiles today“
I would like to make you smile by sharing a video of The Beatles “Octopus’s Garden“, or a clip of Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls, but instead, I’m going nauseate you by sharing this repulsive video of a woman eating an octopus. I won’t get into the cruelty involved here other than to say that the video is disturbing for me, not only because it shows someone eat a living octopus, but also because of the total disregard and lack of respect shown to the animal. I’m not going to talk about things I think people should and shouldn’t eat, and maybe there’s a cultural reason to eat a living octopus that I don’t know about, but I think I can safely say that I don’t think anyone would want to switch to places and get picked up by the head and dropped and tossed and whipped before being loaded into someone’s mouth and crushed to death. So if you’re going to eat it, maybe try and limit the torture and suffering? Don’t turn it into a joke and laugh at the animal’s fear and attempts to say alive.
Oh, if you ever want to see the best man vs. octopus fight, then check out John Wayne doing battle in Reap the Wild Wind.
For RDP Tuesday: Octopus.
You were right–this was gross, and the way they laughed and joked about it was even worse. Have you seen “My Octopus Teacher” on Netflix? Absolutely wonderful and amazing documentary.

I haven’t heard of it before but I was just reading about it and it sounds really good. I like stories where animals bond with humans but unfortunately, I just cancelled my Netflix subscription last month.

Ouagh.
Reading, but not clicking. Do the images de3scribed constitute a “mind-worm” (feeling a little nauseous as I think on and type this…)?

It’s not a horrible video, it’s just kind of nauseating because she eventually eats it raw and it doesn’t want to be eaten 😦
