Irrelevant observation
For RDP Sunday: GLEAN
In a not-too-distant past, I used to spend a lot of time with the news. TV, radio, print, it didn’t matter; if it was newsworthy, I checked it out.
Then the news changed – or maybe my perception of the news changed. Print had started to become a little opinionated and television was more about sensationalism and personalities (think professional wrestling) than news. Radio was still ok because a lot of it was story-driven, but there are better things to listen to on the radio than news.
So here I am. Now I glean what news I see from the headlines of community newspapers by the exit door of the grocery store, or during the minute before or after the local weather, or from online headlines I might see next to the Twins box score, and the occasional overheard conversations of coworkers.
I figure if there’s any news that’s actually newsworthy it’ll make it to me somehow.
I’m not sure if not watching the news is a good thing or a bad thing. What I am sure of is that some coworkers like to talk a lot.
If you’ve gleaned anything from this that’s good. Please leave me a comment and tell me what’s going on in the world! 🙂
We got rain — just a little! — this morning.
More on the way?

A reason to watch the news! We got just a little here too. Just enough to allow me to agree with myself that I didn’t have to go anywhere!

We got clobbered by Tropical Storm Claudette yesterday. News says it packed more of a punch than they thought. Makes you wonder what kind of punch they anticipated. And who ‘they’ are.

Yeah, the mysterious “they”. If you ever figure that out let me know! I’d like to get a job working with them! I hope you’re all ok down there and you didn’t experience much damage? I just read about the storm and saw there were some people seriously injured in Brewton, AL which, I see on the map, is close to Atmore, AL. I used to work with a guy who quit a few years ago to return home to Atmore.

We drove to Atmore last weekend. There’s not much there. Wind Creek Casino is the big draw….but that’s about it. although I found Atmore Donuts so, cha-ching!! I am just over the state line in the FL Panhandle. Brewton got hit big time. Yesterday was their annual Blueberry Festival, too. Cancelled two years in a row now.

You live where I’ve always wanted to retire to. I’ve always thought that up around Panama City or down by Naples would be really nice. Donuts… yum!

In the UK, it’s all about the vaccine rollout. It’s going well, and nearly 80% of adults have now had their first jab. Around 55% have had both jabs.
As for the weather, it’s cool and rather wet in places. It suits me fine because I’m not a lover of heat and humidity.
