Good Cluck (Carrot Ranch)
From Charli Mills at the Carrot Ranch is this week’s challenge.
May 6, 2021, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story about party hens. Who are these chickens and why do they party? Go where the prompt leads!
Good Cluck
“What a beautiful cock!”
“Just yummy!”
“I know, right?”
“And such a dancer! I don’t know about you Jane, but when he lowered that right wing, I almost—”
“Girls, please!” Helen clucked.
“Oh, come on, Helen. Don’t tell me that you didn’t feel your comb quiver when he lowered that right wing.”
“Sophie, please” Helen whispered and glanced quickly to her left. “My chicks.”
“It’s been 16 weeks, dear. You need to start letting them go.”
“Cluuuucckkk,” Helen muttered.
“Relax dear. Here, have a little drinkee.”
“Oh, I don’t know, what if—”
“Helen!”
“Oh, alright, but just the one.”

Linked below is a video from a local Minneapolis blues band, The Lamont Cranston Band. If you lived in the Twin Cities of the great state of Minnesota for any length of time from 1970 on there’s a good chance you may have heard of The Lamont Cranston Band.
Minnesota and Minneapolis are known for Dylan and Prince and the “Minneapolis sound”, but there used to be a tremendous Blues scene here as well with a lot of bands putting out some really good music. (Maybe there still is, I don’t know. I’m too old to stay up late and go dancing at bars). Nothing against Prince at all, but before him bands like Lamont Cranston, The Hoopsnakes, the late and amazingly great Willie Murphy and his Bees, Big George Jackson (RIP) and Serious Bidness, and probably my favorite, The Fabulous Minnesota Barking Ducks, were the Minneapolis sound. If you haven’t heard of any of these musicians/bands they’re worth checking out on Youtube.
Anyway, here’s the Lamont Cranston Band singing a classic Blues song about chickens. Hopefully you have fun listening to it, because, to quote the Fabulous Minnesota Barking Ducks’ motto: “Nothing beats fun for having a good time”.
Words to live by; even if you’re too old to stay up late and go dancing at bars.
Well that was a good time- fun flash complete with music!
