Songs for Monday

This is for round 14 of Laura’s Weekly Song Challenge. Go listen, play along and have fun.

1. Post a video of a song by a woman or a band led by a woman that you consider to be a trailblazer in the music industry.

I don’t know if Karla Bonoff is really a trailblazer but she wrote a bunch of beautiful songs that were covered by Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt and so many others. I fell in love with her when I saw her play as an opener for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils promoting the album that this song is on. At one point in her set someone in the crowd yelled out, “Play another Linda Ronstadt song”, not knowing, or more likely not caring, that Karla had written the songs. How she responded to the guy has always stuck with me. If you only listen to one of these three songs I hope it’s this one.

2. Post a video of a song by an all female band.

There’s a lot but I went with Babes in Toyland band because they were from Minneapolis and this songs rocks.

3. Post a video of a song by a woman that is about strength or finding your fight.

More strength than fight in this one.
