The Big Wheel (Friday Fictioneers)

March 21, 2019

It’s difficult to believe it’s been over a year since I last Fictioneered. My last FF prompt response was February 16th of last year. Time flies, huh? I’m looking forward to reading some old friends and meeting some new ones.

THE DETAILS:
Friday Fictioneers: 1 picture, 100 words, scores of people from around the world sharing their creativity and vision. Feel free to join in, just visit Rochelle Wisoff-Fields to find out how.

THE PROMPT:

The Big Wheel

When the big wheel stopped with us at the top Jenny turned to me and said, “Now what?” I knew she was expecting a kiss but I took her hand instead and said, “I can’t get down on my knees here but, Jenny, will you marry me?”

“Dan, what are you saying?”

“I’m asking if you’ll marry me.”

“Danny, I—”

“What’s that matter?”

“Well, I love you, but—”

She looked at me for what seemed to be too long and said ‘no’ ”. Left a hole as big as that Ferris wheel right in the middle of my heart.

If you’re reading this I hope you didn’t just skip past the song because it’s a really good song by a really good group. And it’s the song that gave me the idea for the story you just read.

Lovely story. Sometimes life does not go the way people expect it to go, you made us feel for Dan. And a nice song to match.

I’ll have to listen to the song when I’m not reading next to someone sleeping. 🙂

Poor guy. I can’t even imagine what that would feel like.. And to be trapped in a Ferris Wheel for what seemed like forever I am sure!!

Yeah, the getting stuck part is the worst. It’s good it was only 100 words so I didn’t have to write about his jumping and fall to the ground.

May be now you know the answer and decide to move on. Alternative, you may try again. She did not say never.

    Welcome back, Michael!
At least he didn’t do it on a friggen Jumbotron…
I guess sometimes we misjudge the depth of another’s feelings. Poor fella.

    Dear Michael,

At least he wasn’t filming the proposal. I often wonder at some of these proposal videos. What if she’d said no. Bittersweet Ferris wheel ride. It’s nice to see you back in the FFFold

    Happy Purim,

    Rochelle

Good story but such a sad one. I’m kind of new here, but I will welcome you back regardless.

As I always do, when someone posts a song, I clicked it before I started reading. Great background 🙂 And if she “loves” him, then what on earth is her problem? Poor guy.

I guess she’s indecisive. But at least he didn’t jump after she answered (although who knows what he might have done with another 10-20 words!).

Awww… I’ll bet the rest of the ride on that ferris wheel was mightily awkward…

I told a guy no once. It was excruciating.
