How ’bout those Twins?
On April 6th my only hope for the Twins was a .500 season and some meaningful baseball games in September. At game 159 the team is a handful of games over .500 and they’re beyond playing meaningful baseball in September and are within a game of making it to the postseason for the first time in five years. In the hunt for suitable adjectives, “Amazing” comes to mind, but that doesn’t come close to what this season has been to any baseball-starved Twins fan.
And for those who think offense is the key to winning baseball games: the three American League teams who’ll be fighting it out this weekend for the last Wild Card spot have the lowest team batting averages in the league. Add in the Mets and the Cubs (two National League teams already in the playoffs) and you have five of the worst hitting teams in Major League Baseball. Baseball games are won by the bullpen and the defense and in those two areas the Twins are above average.
I’d forgotten what it’s like to have fun being a Twins fan and you know what, it’s fun!
Now while I wait for tonight’s game to start I’m going to analyze Mike Pelfrey’s 2016 Free Agent value.
