Flash Fiction Prompt: One Every Minute

March 3, 2013

This week’s prompt from the always challenging Tracy Fabre. (Feel free to play along if you’d like)

While trying to come up with a prompt for this week, I discovered the site Seventh Sanctum, a place full of random creativity tools. One of them is for humorous monsters, so naturally I was drawn to that. But how could I choose just one of the monsters in the random sets?

Obviously I could not.

Please write up to 100 words either about, or from the perspective of, ONE of these monster suggestions from Seventh Sanctum.

Chihuahua of the Afterlife, Enchanted Hamster, Icky Dread Sheep of the Valley, Iron Cow, Ocean Duck, Phantom Chihuahua, Plaid Spirit, Stir-fry Vampire, Time Sheep

Your story may be serious or lighthearted or as silly as you like so long as it is 100 or fewer words.

One Every Minute

You’d think it’d be a dream life, huh? It’s not. Everyday, moms and dads drag their kids in to see me, Arthur the Enchanted Hamster, and frankly, friend, I’m exhausted. The little girls are the worst. “Mommy, can I touch him? Pleeeease?” they whine. “Yes, baby, it’s good luck to pet him. Just be gentle”, so pet they do and gentle they’re not. Every day, 10 to 6, a quarter in the jar and then hand after snot-covered hand reaches down for their dose of good luck before they head out to the midway rides.

Suckers, every one of them.
