Sad’s Okay

August 7, 2012

Do you ever have nothing to say and sit down and find you really had a lot to say? How about the opposite – you’re brimming with thoughts and you sit down and have nothing. I’m at a point now where I really have nothing to say other than I’m sad and I don’t enjoy writing here when I’m sad.

If I were a confessional type of blogger I’d tell you all the reasons I’m sad, and I might wind up feeling happier in the end, but I’m not. I’m pretty much a “Who’s That Man Behind The Curtain” type of blogger. Not that I’m hiding anything, what you see here is me (even the stuff you think I’m making up to be funny), it’s just not all of me. Why not? Who the hell knows. Maybe because if I regulate the “good” and “bad” parts of me and not let you see the sweaty, wide awake at 2:00 a.m. me, I’ll be a more likeable person. Here I am anonymous world, it’s me, hold the warts. I’m not so bad, right?

Did you ever listen to the old band Poco? Probably not. I only knew one other person who enjoyed Poco and she’s long gone so she doesn’t count. Poco started back in 1969 and was maybe, depending on your definition, sort of a supergroup but they were definitely one of the pioneers of the Country Rock genre. Over forty years later the band is still together although only one of the original members, a pedal steel guitar player named Rusty Young, remain. Here’s a Poco song from their first album which might be the happiest sad song I’ve ever heard. The melody is upbeat, toe-tapping fun, but the lyrics are, at least to me, a little sad. Maybe because I’ve let “just a while” become “too long”.

Sad’s okay.

I think being real draws people to you, but there should be some caution in revelations of self. Most would still like you with the warts. I hope a bit of the sadness dissipates.

I don’t think we can every truly express ourselves in our blogs. How can we when there are so many sides to us. I think everyone who has a blog takes on a persona for it.

I seem to share almost everything, but I assure you I don’t I always try to write my blog with an awareness that others may read it and though I am very open, I avoid ranting about family member who are very unlikely to stumble on it, but could and I have many family related horror stories.

What you put out for us to read, warts or no warts is enjoyable and I am glad to have discovered your blog. Write on!

Sure I remember Poco. Richie Furay and Jim Messina (okay, I admit I had to look up who the band members were on Google, but I do remember them!). I liked a lot of their songs. I’m sorry to hear that you’re sad but I hopeit passes and that whatever the reasons are will pass, too.

Sad’s totally OK. I’m sad today too.

Also, my sister was a huge fan of Poco. I listened to them a lot growing up.
