Okay, so maybe they’re not the best chocolate chip cookies ever, probably nothing will ever beat mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies (I’m accepting applications, please inquire), but they’re pretty darn good and what they are are the vegan chocolate chip cookies at Whole Foods Market. No, I’m not a vegan, I’m just an almost-Vegetarian, but I think about making the change from time to time when I don’t have anything else to think about.
So I was at Whole Foods and saw them and thought I’d try one, my logic being that it would suck and I’d throw it away and I could then use that as another excuse not to move more toward a different diet. And could you blame me? After all who can subscribe to a diet that doesn’t offer a tasty chocolate chip cookie or two (or three)? But after one bite of Whole Food Market’s cookie I knew I could never use that as an excuse (which was too bad) but I did discover a new, really delicious, chocolate chip cookie.
In other food related news, I saw that Special K has a cereal out called “Chocolatey Delight”. I don’t pay much attention to Special K so I don’t know if the cereal is new or not, but I tried a box because of the “Chocolately” part. Unfortunately, I didn’t think it was very good. The cereal itself is all right but the chocolate really ruined it for me. I’m guessing it’s real chocolate in there but the pieces are tiny and they don’t taste very good. They’re sort of waxy and they didn’t taste like chocolate to me until about five minutes after I finished eating. The little chocolate chunks remind me of Palmer’s chocolate. I think a great improvement would be to get rid of those bad-tasting chocolate chunks and add some Brach’s Milk Chocolate Stars or Double Dippers. Or maybe some Nestle Sno Caps! Do that and we’d be talking some kind of cereal!
Nahhh, all they need to do is coat ’em in Nestle Quick so when you drown ’em in milk it becomes CHOCOLATE milk. This seems to be how it is with Chocolate Cheerios which are yummy I might add! OR you could jus5t simply pour chocolate milk over just about any cereal for an interesting variation now and again. Chocolate cereals date back to my childhood (Coco Puffs, and later Count Chocula) so I am surprised that they are making a comeback which is celebrated as if it’s a brand new thing. It’s not. Re chocolate chip cookies… the best for me will ALWAYS be homemade, hot and gooey from the oven that stay soft and don’t get hard and crunchy like store bought.

I like Chocolate Cheerios too, but have you had the Peanut Butter Cheerios yet? I didn’t think they were very good.

You are a very bad influence. I must try those cookies now, you know that, right? My hiney is not the least bit happy about that.
I agree with you about the Special K. Chocolate Chex aren’t half-bad, though. Oh, and Trader Joe’s has a really spectacular cookie, too. Not chocolate chip, but awesome, nonetheless. They’re called Cranberry Circles (or something like that). Chewy oatmeal with cranberry bits. Add coffee and you’ve got yourself a little bit of heaven.

I’m thinking because these cookies are vegan that they have to be healthy and very low in fat. It stands to reason, right? Vegan diet = healthy. Vegan cookies = healthy? I’m interested in your thoughts on them once you try one.

I have no good chocolate chip recipes, but I had a friend who could make great chocolate chip cookies. Unfortunately even though he tried to teach me, I am a hopeless cook.
