Something Sad This Way Comes

June 6, 2012

I brought up Yahoo! to log onto my email and there was a yellow banner across the top announcing that writer Ray Bradbury had died.

Damn.

I’m not so sure why it should bother me so much. I didn’t know the guy and I haven’t read him for a very long time and I’m even one of the few who were sort of bored with Fahrenheit 451. I think it’s because I recognize that had it not been for Ray Bradbury I’m not sure I’d enjoy reading books, be as intrigued by writing, or have as much of a sense of wonder as I do today. If I’d never had read his stories I think I’d be a different person.

“Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry quicker, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I’m one of them.” – Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine.

Yeah, me too.

Ray Bradbury is dead at 91. Ninety-one is a good life. Rest well and see you around.

That is sad news indeed. I too find myself affected a little more when a famous person dies. I know it makes no sense. I think I relate a famous person passing with a loss in part of my life somehow. The loss of potential, what could have been.

At this point in my life I have only experienced the loss of a person who died too early once. At the time I couldn’t show it, but that death still haunts me over twenty years later.

Write on and have a great day!

I remember hearing about him in high school years ago, but haven’t had the chance to read Fahrenheit 451.

‘Glad to know that I am not the only one who struggles with the passing of the famous. It seems that the famous framed my life and gave me a source outside my family for how life is lived.

That quote from him is outstanding… Think its time to go back F451.

Too bad about Ray. 😦 On a positive note, I really like your blog!!! Lots of stuff on it and fish that swim?? Where did you find those?! 🙂 The top banner is really neat too.
