Thoughts Going Down

April 9, 2012

Here’s my (three day late) Friday Fictioneers 100-word challenge/prompt response.

The challenge is simple. Madison Woods posts a photo every Friday on her blog and she offers up her interpretation of the photo. Read her piece and comment and at the end of the comment include the link to your piece which should be written in 100 or fewer words.

If you want to play along this week, visit Madison’s blog by clicking HERE and read her Friday Fictioneer entry.

Thoughts Going Down

The fish won’t bite, the sun won’t shine and the beer is flat.

The sun’s getting ready to set and I been sitting here on the bank of War Eagle river all day wondering what went wrong. I’m guilty, but it weren’t all me, I know that much, and I think no matter what I coulda said or done, you woulda still had that travel bug and set off, leaving me here alone with the fish, this margarine tub full of worms, the flat beer, the setting sun and this bag full of questions.

Why’d you do it, Mary Jane?

“The fish won’t bite, the sun won’t shine and the beer is flat.”
A very catchy start, and you kept the pulse going throughout.
Loved the tone and pace of your story. Good work!
The 3 days wait was worth it… 🙂
    Thanks for sharing this.

“here alone with the fish, this margarine tub full of worms, the flat beer, the setting sun and this bag full of questions.” Strong imagery reflecting everythign going bad and downhill, including or because of Mary Jane’s action, perhaps, running away or desertion. A fine piece.
