Blogging from A-Z & Other Stuff
It’s the first of April and that marks the beginning of the Blogging from A-Z Challenge. I don’t think I’m going to do the challenge because I’m a worrier and we’re only at “A” but I’m already worried about what the word will be when we get to the letter “X” because I refuse to blog about Xantham gum or Xerox copiers. Speaking of low-down, how many of you reading this had Boz Scaggs’ Silk Degrees album? How many of you still listen to it today?

Today’s also April Fool’s Day. I once left a note on the desk of a guy I used to work with that read, “Call Mr. Lyon this morning after 10:00.” with the phone number for the Minnesota Zoo. He came in that morning, saw the note and did. It was sort of funny. If today were a work day I might think about lifting up the phone handset of a colleague and then tape down the little button thing with clear tape so when he gets a phone call and picks up the handset it won’t connect and will keep on ringing. Then I’d wait until he’s a couple of steps out of his office and I’d call him. Something else that might be fun would be to take one of those 3M sticky note things and cut it in half and then just stick it to the bottom of someone’s mouse so they think their mouse has stopped working. Then you just sit back and enjoy the frantic call to the Help Desk.
Ahh, the joys of April Fool’s Day.
If you listen to NPR on Fridays you might be familiar with Science Fridays. This past Friday, in honor of April Fool’s Day, show host Ira Flatow (who I think sounds like Groucho Marx) did a segment on science humor and he shared this joke from a caller to last year’s science humor show:
Q: What was the greatest biological experiment of all time?
A: It was when Luther Burbank crossed the Rocky Mountains with his wife.
Get it? I didn’t either. Go look up Luther Burbank and it’ll all make sense and maybe make you laugh. Laughing is good, right?

I feel the challenge tugging at me, Amy. I woke up at about 1:30 last night thinking about words that begin with the letter “B”. I didn’t know if I was dreaming of the $10,000 Pyramid game or the challenge 🙂

I disapprove of your office pranks. Sure, they’re funny, but as the IT guy in my office I’d be getting the call to fix the problem. Its like a double prank, once on the target, then on the support staff. I’m just kidding, a good prank is always fun. I’ve taken part in my fair share.
I looked up Luther Burbank and I still don’t get it. Must have missed something.

I’m not a science guy and it took me a while to finally get it. Luther Burbank is a famous botanist and he crossed a lot of plants with other plants to get new plants. So by the joke, the greatest experiment in history was not when Burbank crossed one plant with another plant to create a new plant, but when he crossed his wife with the mountains. I’ll stick with fart jokes!

Last year, I did the April A-Z thing and then did a Z to A in May one. Nutso. TWO X posts. One was kind of a cheat. I referenced The Karate Kid and titled it waX On waX Off.
