Who Has Time?

January 24, 2012

GBE week 36 prompt: Time

Time.
A blessing and a curse
Never enough. Sometimes too much.
Eternity.

Time spent waiting. Waiting for the phone to ring. Waiting for a mouth to open. Waiting for a word. Waiting for a kiss. Waiting for a smile. Waiting for a tear. Waiting for a decision. Waiting for a result. Waiting for a decision. Waiting for the oven timer to ring. Waiting for a line to move. Waiting for a car to move. Waiting for a part of your body to move.

    (Time)    Waiting.
                (Time)    Waiting.
                                (Time)    Waiting.

Regardless of our best intentions, have you ever noticed that we have a tendency to make the same mistakes time and time again. I wonder what that says.

Question: If you had a time machine and could go anywhere you wanted, knowing you could only go to one place, and knowing there was no such thing as any type of time travel paradoxes to worry about so you could theoretically go back in time and marry yourself if you wanted, would you go into the past to your happiest day and relive it, or would you go into the past to your worst day and change it, or would you go into the future and leave yourself a surprise or would you go and do something else? Where, what and why?

We spend a lot of time in the pursuit of time but it’s really not the amount of time that matters, it’s what we do with the time we have that matters.

Time for a man in love:

Time for a man falling out of love:

Time for dancers:

Time for peace, love and psychodelicized time (with one hell of a rocking cowbell):

Time for a man who has mastered time:

Until next time…

I really love the idea of going back to when I was, say, 15…an It Gets Better letter. So that I would it isn’t nearly so hopeless, loveless as it felt then.

I’d go to next week, get a newspaper, and find out what the Powerball numbers are going to be. Seriously.

My first instinct was to say that I’d go back and hang out with my mom for one more day, something I’d dearly love to do, but no. I’d grab those numbers. The day after I hung out with her, I’d again be without her, but those mega-funds would provide a whole lot of lasting happy. I don’t believe that money can buy happiness, but I’m already happy and the one thing I want more of is free time, and money sure can buy that.

Money can’t buy happiness, but it can sure help to make happiness.

I would go back to my young self, aged 13, and tell her that she’ll make it, eventually. Nice post, Michael; one to make us think. (And any appearance of the Timewarp is a good thing!)

Love the Time Warp, and as for the Outsiders… for a long time, I thought the lyrics were “Tom Won’t Let Me” and I wondered what Tom’s problem was.

It does seem we’ve got big blobby chunks of it, OR way too little, but it’s all good. We have enough time to get done all the things we REALLY need (if not *want*) to do in this life.

I’d go hang out with my mother for as long as I could, given that time machine. She died when I was 10, so I do wish I’d gotten to have an adult-to-adult relationship with her.
