11-11-11

A lot of people are excited about today’s date. Stuff about good luck and good fortune. I don’t know anything about that, my internal jury is still out on whether or not luck really exists or if it’s something we make ourselves, but what I do know is that this is pretty cool. First, unless you’re some kind of freaky math genius, grab your calculator or open up the calculator on your computer (Start –> All Programs –> Accessories –> right there). Now multiply today’s date of 111111 by itself. 111111 X 111111 = Cool! Even cooler still? Take nine 11’s and multiply them by themselves. Cool?

I don’t have to work today which is always a little bit of a mixed blessing. I’m not the most organized or ambitious person in the world, so unless I have something planned out, these extra days off can be a little boring. Wake up. Read, nap, read, nap, you get the idea. New car and mattress sales are in abundance but I don’t need either of those so today I’m going to go look for a new winter coat and a jigsaw puzzle. Believe it or not, I’ve never done a jigsaw puzzle before and for some reason I’ve been thinking lately that putting one together might be fun.

Most importantly, today is also Veteran’s Day. A good day to give thanks for what we have and for who helps us get it. Also a good day to buy and wear a red poppy in remembrance of those who have lost their lives during times of war. Maybe if we wear enough flowers every day we’ll eventually realize that it’s fun wearing flowers and that we’d rather wear flowers every day than fight wars every day. Imagine what we could do if we weren’t fighting wars.

So what do you think, is there such a thing as luck, or is luck something we make ourselves?

I know nothing about whether luck is made or granted or non-existent.

But I do know that the sound of your read/nap/read/nap/jigsaw puzzle/nap day sounds just about right.
