Writing Prompt – 02/01/11 – Play Along!

February 1, 2011

I hope you play along! If you want, you can either post your response to the prompt as a reply, or email it to me and I’ll post it as a regular post here with credit to you.

The prompt (thanks to Tracy at Gather):

While walking near a stream, you fall into a secret chamber. In 100 or fewer words, tell me what you see there and possibly how you get out again.

— Use one/more of the following words in your story —
doubloon / pudding / buckshot / dingo / Indiana Jones

The Palace

“Where are you?”

“I’m in Indiana. . .”

I lost communication as I fell into the secret chamber. Sliding feet-first down the tunnel like buckshot I landed like warm pudding on the linoleum floor. A door led me outside to a land full of colorful trees and flowers. A short man, shorter than a dingo, in green coat and top hat approached.

“How do I get out of here?” I asked.

“Dubloon!” His voice was high-pitched.

“I don’t have any money. . .”

“DUBLOON!” he pointed.

I turned and saw a majestic hot-air balloon labeled “Omaha State Fair”.
