Ronnie Greene: The “Year ‘Round” Santa

December 22, 2010

I don’t think it’s legal for me to copy/paste Steve Hartman’s article about Mascot, Tennessee’s Ronnie Greene from the CBS News website here but I’d really like to because I know a lot of people don’t like, or trust, clicking on links because they don’t know where the link will take them. I don’t blame them, I don’t like that either, but I think Ronnie Greene’s story needs to be shared so he’s known by as many people as possible so I’m tempted. I’m really tempted.

Here’s a link to the story. Please read it. Watch the video. Click here.

Ronnie Greene has been helping the needy in his neck of the woods for 26 years. Whether the need has been for gifts, clothes, food or money, Ronnie has been giving it to the people who are in need. Ronnie gives, he says, to the, “. . . poorest of the poor.”

Ronnie Greene’s friend said that Ronnie has given away everything he’s ever made and that he has nothing in the bank. Unfortunately, because of his wife’s liver illness, Ronnie Greene is actually $75,000 in debt and may have to sell his house to pay doctor bills.

Hartman asks the question, “How one man can be that selfless?” I don’t have an answer to his question and I really wish I did. If you an answer I’d love for you to share it. All I can think about is what the world would be like if just half of us had just 1/10 the benevolence that Ronnie Greene has. How different would our communities be if we had just one Ronnie Greene living among us? I don’t know what Ronnie Greene has that the rest of us don’t, but I’d sure like to know.

Here’s a link to the story. Please read it. Watch the video. Click here.

And to CBS News – thank you for running this story.
