Scent of a Burger
Anyone who is familiar with White Castle hamburgers knows the aroma. Love ’em or hate ’em, the aroma of a fresh White Castle hamburger is instantly recognizable and, from one firmly planted on the side of love ’em, that aroma is one of life’s pleasures.
White Castle recognized that not everyone can have fresh White Castle hamburgers at home, so they sell the White Castle candle. File this marketing idea under: Genius. I bought two. The candles don’t smell exactly like a White Castle hamburger, which is unfortunate, but there’s something in the scent of that candle – and I don’t know what it is – that puts you in mind of a sack of hamburgers, so for me that’s a success.
The big local newspaper on an apparently slow news day this past week ran a small review of the White Castle candle. The review, in typical fashion, was insulting, but even more upsetting than the insulting comments and the “See-How-Funny-I-Am-Because-I’m-Mocking-Something” tone of the article was the comment by the writer that the hamburgers are “smothered in fried onions”. Anyone who’s ever eaten a White Castle hamburger, and I’d guess even many who haven’t, know that White Castle hamburgers are not “smothered in fried onions but topped with steamed onion bits. Delicious steamed onion bits.

Sometimes i give in and just go to White Castle and get some sliders lol. We have a nicknack for them.. they cause you to have or should I say pass “g” word lol. But they are so good. Great post.

OH how I wish I could try a White Castle Hamburger. I KNOW I’d love them! UNfortunately for me, they don’t have them in Canada – well at least in MY section of the country. MAYBE they do in Ontario or Quebec, closer to the American Northwest where WC flourishes, but here in central Canada, nyet, nada, non, uh uh, so sorry, not a chance, sigh 😦 Maybe some day. I can dream can’t I? After all, we eventually got Burger King a few years AFTER Eastern Canada got BK – seems to me that was late 70’s – early 80’s or there abouts. ATTENTION White Castle: There’s a whole vast untapped market in the Great White North that is just waiting to embrace you as our own new “burger fix”. Just give us a chance to PROVE how well we can scarf up your burgers. YUM YUM!

No, I don’t think they’re out west or in Canada. I think they’re only in just a few of the northern and northeastern states. Have you looked for them frozen at the grocery store?

Oh Mr. Fishman my Dear. I must finally disagree with you, and after all this time. I hate WC. I have two brothers, one in Memphis, the other in D.C., and when they come to visit Chicago, WC is the first place they go.
