The Welcoming Hero

December 3, 2010

I whine all the time about depressing stories on the news so I was very happy to see this particular story this morning and it makes me feel good to pass along something positive.

First though, try and put your politics aside when you hear the story. Whatever your thoughts were on the Vietnam war, no matter what you think about the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, put those thoughts aside for just a few minutes because they’re not important to this story. Just think about person named Walt Peters for a moment

Walt Peters is a Vietnam veteran. After serving multiple tours overseas, Peters came home to less than a hero’s welcome. He was faced with taunts and abuse, a time he calls his, “hell”.

Walt Peters now spends his time giving returning soldiers the welcome home he never received.

“By giving a soldier a flag and shaking his hand, that’s my heaven. Simple as that.”
