Subterranean Post-election Day Blues*
I went to sleep last night optimistic I would write this morning about how happy I was with the midterm election results. Well, what is it they say about the best laid plans of mice and men? Something about rye bread, I think. Don’t quote me on that; it could be pumpernickel.
Needless to say, I wasn’t very happy with the election results last night.
Needless to say is really a silly thing to say, isn’t it? I mean, if it’s needless to say then why say it? I’ll try again…

So, the elections are over and now the pundits on the right can tell us what they’re doing wrong on the left and the pundits on the left can tell us what they’re doing wrong on the right and our brains will turn to stone. While that’s going on people will continue to forget to fact check and believe half of what they’re hearing and life will go on. Me, I’ll just sit back and wait for the 2012 campaign to start up sometime next year. And hopefully in that time I won’t hear too many predictions of President Obama being a one-term president or much speculation about the advantages/disadvantages of the DNC running someone against him in the presidential primaries. I hope, in that time, I don’t hear about more candidates for office dumping $15 million on a congressional seat. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be the bozo over in the corner who still believes that every American should basic human rights and things like affordable health insurance, a job that pays the bills, a roof over their head and a full stomach every day. Yeah, I know, I’m a dreamer.
My hope is for an end to the extremist rhetoric. I don’t care to hear radical comments like, “We’ve come to take our government back” or garbage about “Second Amendment remedies” to “cure” our problems.
I’m tired. I stayed up too late last night and I was up too early this morning and if I drank coffee I’d be drinking some now. But the evening wasn’t a total bust because this interview of Michele Bachmann by Chris Matthews on MSNBC was pretty great.

I don’t know anyone who was happy with the election results. I almost didn’t get to vote at all because my 8 year old made some inappropriate “campaigning remarks” while I was in my little booth. But I did vote, and I was sure to tell all my friends “If you don’t vote, you don’t get to complain.” 🙂

People voted with their anger, with their frustration, not with their minds which should (but do not) think critically.
I dread the 2012 elections. I dread them so much that I already have shut off my TV, and will not turn it back on until AFTER the Tea Party nonsense has stopped being spoon-fed by the media.
And I *do* blame the media for this debacle, simply because they stoked a fire against Obama that was entirely unjustified.
As I’ve been saying since early 2009, just let the man DO. HIS. JOB.

I’m not sure the 2012 elections will be that bad. I think the campaigning will be bad but I think the elections will be good. People like Rand Paul got elected on lies and I think those lies will be exposed in the next two years and (I hope) people will see that and vote it.
