Shorty #2: Fired Up

A “Shorty” is a piece of genre fiction limited to 100 words or less.

The prompt:
This genre is ‘Romance’. The story may be serious or light hearted or as silly as you like just so long as it is 100 words or less and written for the following prompt.

Valentine’s day is fast approaching and it’s time for those love stories. I don’t want to make it too easy though so choose one of the following locations for the setting of your story:

A cafe in Venice
A Vail ski lodge
A veterinarian’s office
A Virginia beach
A vacant lot

and use one or more of the following words in your story:

velvet
violins
vampire
vodka
valentine
velcro

(100 words)

A day-long light rain fell on the parking lot and the tarred surface shone with a velvet gloss. No one else was parked here; we were alone and I was feeling brave. I’d been waiting for this for a long time and tonight was the night. I leaned over, hesitated, felt the cold sweat on the palms of my hand. Swallowing past the lump of apprehension, I found my courage and took a deep breath. I mustered my nerve, raised my right arm and put the key in the ignition and fired up new love, my ’68 Chevy Nova SS.
