I Miss You So

It’s Friday Fictioneers time again over at Madison Woods‘ place. Click and play!

How to play? See a picture, write 100 words, post, share and have fun.

A picture:

100 words:

My Dearest,

Ten years today. So many years and I miss you as much today as I did that first day. I knew it would be difficult but I never imagined that being apart from you could cause this much pain. I think only about being with you again. To hold you. To love you. To spend eternity with you.

I look out the window in my quarters every night from my cold outpost on Europa, through the trees in the biodome and the gas clouds beyond and find the star I know is earth and send you my love.

And this was very lovely indeed. Very compelling, just as that photo prompt was. I do love that lost in space milieu and find it part of a lot of our universal unconsciousness – and you have definitely tapped into it.

Thank you Lindaura! I often think of a universal consciousness but I’ve never thought of a universal unconsciousness.

Sad. You conveyed all those emotions well. Distance that can’t be bridged leaves a terrible ache.

Initially I read it as the Moon calling to the Sun, her lover and then the second paragraph completely changed that – really nice.

What I love about this is that you make the moon into Earth. I hope I caught that right… Anyway you’ve got such longing for the MC’s loved one. I found myself wanting the to reunite very soon. Great story, mine is here: http://remakingme-atiyatownes.blogspot.com/2012/05/friday-flash-fiction-birthing.html

I love that your character is on another satellite. The memories of Earth and the one this person loves so far away. Even though we experience this on a much smaller scale distance -wise, for lovers, it may as well be Europa and Earth, right?

You’re right. It doesn’t matter if we’re next door or separated by light years. Love separated by distance is immeasurable. Thank you for reading and for your comment!

You captured the universal ache of yearning for a loved one who is so far away. Would love to know how he got to Europa and what he is doing there. Wonder if they will they ever be re-united. An original and unique take on the prompt. Here’s mine:

This is a very sweet piece, I thoroughly felt for the lovers. Nicely done. One tiny concrit – “my cold outpost on Europa” sounds a tiny bit like esxposition, I think because quite a few words are devoted to it. Maybe you could just say “my cold outpost” and save the twist of “Earth” for the very end. Just a thought.

That’s an interesting thought. Leave out mention of Europa completely and have him some place far away, but unnamed?

Just a suggestion, but it would be my preference. Especially because Europa could be confused for just some weird (futuristic or whatever) name for Europe, and not another world at all.
